Looking back over the week, I realized we did quite a bit! We started off with the annual President’s Volunteer Service Awards (PVSA), which keeps track of the kids’ volunteer hours over the course of the summer/school year. Depending on their age and minimum requirements, you can receive a bronze, silver or gold award. I’m proud to announce that Shane received the Bronze award and Jake received the Silver award this year. Combined, the boys served the community in various ways for over 200 hours since May 2015. This was Jake’s last ceremony, and he has been awarded with a PVSA every year since 5th grade (and maybe earlier, but we can’t remember that far back)! He was also asked to introduce the guest speaker that evening, our own District 9 City Councilman. Of all the accomplishments my boys have achieved, the fact that they choose to volunteer and serve our community makes me the most proud. Congratulations to Jake and Shane!
Getting the whole family together for a photograph AND getting everyone to smile at the same time is no mean feat!!
Other highlights of the week included sampling a selection of Swedish snacks from our monthly Treats box, trying out a (new to us) restaurant called Mediterranean Turkish Grill (amazing), having a lazy Sunday breakfast at another new to us spot called Halcyon Coffee Bar-Southtown (also amazing), trying out a Chicken & Rice Casserole recipe for dinner (adults liked it, kids were unimpressed), and also forgoing an actual meal for dinner and opting for ice cream instead!!
